With the rapid population growth, the water crisis now looms in the world. There is a really huge source of water, rain. In some regions of the world such as Africa and Asia access to drinking water is also determined by lack of infrastructure that are able to exploit the natural resources. Raindrops is a design project, inexpensive that could resolve a growing water scarcity around the world. To achieve this simply edit the current system of gutters of our homes, to mount plastic bottles that collect water piovana. In result can be reused for your water garden or to wash their hands.
Raindrops to monento won the Design for Poverty.
L’utilizzo:
The system allows to adapt the common plastic bottles home to gutters, Raindrop is an innovative and low cost that allows the reuse of water that would normally be dispersed in the soil, rivers and seas. The financial commitment required to achieve a raindrop is very low, and therefore accessible to all. It also allows you to reuse plastic bottles , that would normally be thrown.

Project cute at first sight.
indeed, a more accurate observation, presents the shortcomings do not indifferent:
- need for a flat base to be installed. the 99% the gutters is a cylindrical tube section of 100mm so it is difficult to apply (if not impossible).
- looking at the pictures of the attack seems to be created a special collection in the tube (square section) a large hole in the cap of the bottle , with two side holes, you insert the nozzle and rotate to lock bayonet. Try this collection on a copper gutter and repeat for all the bottles you want to attack.
- the opening mechanism works only for washing hands first bottle on top that has no other bottles above if.
lastly:
- rain water coming down the pitch of a roof is unsuitable for anything but clean and wash hands. Often, the gutters are full of dry leaves, moss, dead insects, bird droppings. All this is collected in bottles, heated by the sun and becomes a bacterial culture
- to be a contest of ideas and design, the whole is really bad (Then to see clear bottles filled with dirty water, dead insects etc..)
Maybe a simple barrel bottom of the tube with eaves height of the overflow sewer into which refers, would be more practical?
